Our 10 week Korean language program includes free Special Topic drop in language and cultural classes throughout the semester. Special sessions have included: “Let’s Make Ddukboki”, “Korean Tongue Twisters” “Pronounce Like a Native Speaker” to “Korean Folk-Art”

Anyone from anywhere can join our world famous Korean classes!

Each class runs for 2 hours during the course of the 10-week semester. All classes will be held online unless otherwise noted.

Students who can not read Korean must register in Korean Fundamentals. Classes in the same level are the same, just different time and day. Select which works best for your schedule.

WHICH CLASS SHOULD I TAKE?

Various Sections within the same level are exactly the same content – only different day/times. Each class needs a minimum of 4 students to remain open. If minimum registration is not met, classes may be cancelled. Enroll now to ensure your class remains open.

For those students or those with absolutely no experience or very little experience in Korean should register for Korean Fundamentals. Students with a Korean heritage background who cannot read Hangul will also be asked to start with Korean Fundamentals.

Description of Classes

King Sejong Institute Adult Korean Classes

This class is suited for absolute beginners or those with limited experience. Students with a background in Korean, but cannot read, will also be required to take this class before moving on. The goal of this course is to master Korean alphabet (Hangul) focusing on reading skills including pronunciation rules and to gain the basic four skills of Korean (listening, reading, writing, speaking) and sentence structure. Korean Fundamentals will cover basic topics including greetings, asking about jobs and objects, and location. Topic marker 은/는, subject marker 이/가, question words (뭐, 누구, 어디, 어느, 이건 ), equational expression 이에요/예요, and statements of existence and possession 있어요/없어요 will be taught.
For students who have completed Korean Fundamental or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to master all basic skills focusing on acquire beginner communication skills with vocabulary and basic grammar learning. Korean Level 1 will cover asking basic information such as relationships, family, phone numbers, birthdays, and expressions of buying things and ordering food. Numbers (Sino/Native), time marker ~에서 ~까지, Months of the year, days of the month, object particle 을/를, polite request expressions ~주세요, negative 안, ~지않다, question words 얼마나/어떻게, and 하다 verbs and adjectives will be taught in this course.
For students who have completed Korean Beginner 1 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to master all basic skills focusing on the acquisition of mid-beginner communication skills with vocabulary and basic grammar learning and the use of all the basic skills of Korean in more complex context. Students in Korean Level 2 will be able to talk about weekend activities using tense (present, past, future tense), make appointments using specific time and location, and give reasons for actions, and ask for favors. Students will also talk about family members using honorific expressions. Object marker 을/를, present tense, past tense 았/었/ᄊ 어요, future tense (으) ᄅ 거에요, Honorific expressions 으시-/-시-, 께서, purpose of movement -으러/러, making a suggestion -을까요, and Probability/guessing -을 거예요/-ㄹ 거예요 will be taught in this course.
Designed for students who have completed Beginner 2 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to acquire intermediate communicative skills that includes intermediate grammar and some writing skills. Korean Level 3 will cover everyday life conversational skills such as giving recommendations, talking about situations and conditions, and making appointments and reservations using proper forms of expressions. Commands with (으)세요, differential expressions ~습니다/ᄇ니다 with question ~습니까?/ᄇ니까?, when something has not been decided and yet to be completed ~(이)나/~거나, reasons for actions: -(으)니까, conditional clauses -(으)면, making requests -아/어/여 주세요, to become ~아어여 지다, and honorific expressions will be taught in this course.
For students who have completed Korean Beginner 3 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to acquire intermediate community skills focusing on vocabulary and intermediate grammar learning. Korean Level 4 will cover everyday life conversational skills such as talking about experience and plan, asking for information such as a period time, social etiquette, asking for help, and giving explanations about purpose by using proper forms of expressions. Students will learn about emphasizing between two different actions ~으려고/려고 하다, specific moment in which something happens ~을/ㄹ 때, ~을/ㄹ게요, negative and imperative propositions ~지 말다, -아/어/여야 되다, in order to do something ~기 위해서, express that you are impressed or surprise ~네요, in order to ~기 위해서 will be taught in this course.
For students who have completed Korean Beginner 4 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to develop high communicative skills, to acquire further comprehension ability, expanded vocabulary, more complicated grammatical patterns and sentence structures. Students will learn relatively complex structural patterns of Korean, build up their vocabulary, and get acquainted with various aspects of Korean culture and society. Students will be able to participate with ease and confidence in conversations on familiar topics, can speak about events and experiences in various time frames, and can handle social interactions in everyday situations.

TERMS (Please read before registering): 

  • FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE (except in the case of class cancellation by KAC). Please do not register if you are unsure. 
  • Fees are non-transferable to another semester. No Credits will be given for missed classes. Since we are a nonprofit organization, we do not have the administrative capacity to handle these requests.
  • Fees do not include books. Books can either be purchased through Korean American Center. Instructions on book purchase will be provided upon registration.
  • Fees may be tax deductible, talk to your financial advisor for details.
  • Fees must be paid prior to the beginning of class. Registration is not considered complete unless fees are fully paid.
