Find Your Korean Class Level

This class is suited for absolute beginners or those with limited experience. Students with a Korean heritage background, but cannot read, will also be required to take this class before moving on. The goal of this course is to master the Korean alphabet (Hangul), focusing on reading skills including pronunciation rules, to gain the basic four skills of Korean (listening, reading, writing, speaking), and sentence structure. Korean Fundamentals will cover basic topics including greetings, likes and dislikes, question words (뭐, 누구, 어디, 이건 ), equational expression (이에요/예요), and statements of existence and possession (있어요/없어요). Students will be able to do greetings, self-introductions, and how to ask about someone’s nationality or profession using the polite “-이에요/예요” ending.

For learners who have completed Korean Fundamental or have the equivalent proficiency. You should be able to read out loud and understand the following: “안녕하세요. 제 이름은 김태형입니다. 저는 한국 사람이에요. 저는 미국에 살아요. 반갑습니다.”  If you cannot fully read and understand, please sign up for Korean Fundamentals to give yourself the foundation needed to be successful in Beginner 1.

This course builds a strong foundation in basic Korean communication while strengthening listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students expand on their ability to form complete, polite sentences in everyday situations. Centered on greetings, introductions, daily activities, places in town, food, household items, routines, hobbies, and simple past and future plans, students learn to exchange essential information with confidence. Grammar structures include topic and subject markers (은/는, 이/가), polite present tense endings (-아요/어요/해요), the copula (-이에요/예요), existence expressions (있어요/없어요), location particles (에/에서), object markers (을/를), counters (개/명/마리), negation (안/–지 않다), past tense (-았어요/었어요), and basic future forms (–을 거예요).

By the end of the course, students will be able to introduce themselves, describe daily routines, talk about favorite foods, explain what they did last weekend, describe what is in a room, exchange contact information politely, and make simple plans with others. Emphasis is placed on real-life speaking tasks that support practical communication and build confidence in structured conversational settings.

For learners who have completed Beginner 1 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to master all basic skills focusing on the acquisition of beginner communication skills with vocabulary and basic grammar learning and the use of all the basic skills of Korean in more complex contexts. Students in Korean Beginner 2 will be able to talk about weekend activities using tense (past/present/future), make appointments using specific time and location, give reasons for actions, and ask for favors. Students will also talk about family members using honorific expressions. Object marker (을/를), present tense, past tense (았/었/였 어요), future tense ((으)ᄅ 거예요), honorific expressions (으시-/-시-, 께서), purpose of movement (-으러/러 가다), will be taught in this course.

For learners who have completed Beginner 2 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to help students master essential foundational skills, with a strong emphasis on acquiring mid-beginner communication skills, expanding their vocabulary, improving grammar, and applying these skills in more complex contexts. This course covers weather, outfit, color, health, recent condition, and transportaion. Students will learn about guessing probability (-(으)ㄹ 거예요), reason / in sequence (-아/어서), formal style sentence ending (-ㅂ/습니다), listing / order of time (-고), and means (-(으)로) in this course.

The goal of this course is to acquire pre-intermediate communicative skills, focusing on vocabulary and pre-intermediate grammar learning. This course will cover daily conversational skills, such as talking about public etiquette, making an appointment, and requesting a favor from someone. This course bridges the gap between beginner and intermediate Korean conversation, allowing learners to describe daily life activities related to work and study, as well as make plans with friends and family. The goal of this course is to acquire intermediate communicative skills, focusing on vocabulary and intermediate grammar learning. This course will cover daily conversational skills, such as giving regards and greetings, leisure activities, appointments, and house chores. For learners who have completed Intermediate 2 or have the equivalent proficiency. This course aims to enable students to communicate effectively in the Korean language in a variety of contexts and situations. They will be able to participate in both informal and formal conversations. In addition, they will improve their interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication. This course will cover upgraded daily conversational skills, such as culture difference, symptoms and treatment, dealing with personal worries and issues, and finance. For learners who have completed Intermediate 6 or have the equivalent proficiency. Learners will expand their vocabulary, refine complex sentence structures, and develop the ability to express detailed opinions and emotions naturally and appropriately.

This course explores a wide range of topics—such as personal impressions, regrets, social differences, meaningful lives, societal change, and new beginnings—through discussions and writing. Students will learn advanced grammar patterns used to express contrast, reason, and speculation, including –(으)ㄴ/는 데다가 (in addition to), –(으)ㄴ/는 척하다 (pretend to), –(으)ㄹ 걸 그랬어요 (I should have …), –(으)ㄴ/는 편이다 (tend to), –(으)ㄴ/는 김에 (while doing something), and –(으)ㄹ까 봐요 (for fear that). Through guided speaking, listening, and writing practice, students will gain the fluency and confidence to discuss personal growth and social issues in culturally appropriate, natural Korean.
