Find Your Korean Class Level

This class is suited for absolute beginners or those with limited experience. Students with a background in Korean, but cannot read, will also be required to take this class before moving on. The goal of this course is to master the Korean alphabet (Hangul), focusing on reading skills including pronunciation rules, to gain the basic four skills of Korean (listening, reading, writing, speaking), and sentence structure. Korean Fundamentals will cover basic topics including greetings, likes and dislikes, native and Sino numbers, question words (뭐, 누구, 어디, 이건 ), equational expression (이에요/예요), and statements of existence and possession (있어요/없어요).

For learners who have completed Korean Fundamental or have the equivalent proficiency. This class focuses on building a foundational understanding of basic Korean communication. Students begin by learning greetings, self-introductions, and how to ask about someone’s nationality or profession using the polite “-이에요/예요” ending. They are introduced to the functions of topic markers “은/는” and subject markers “이/가” to understand sentence structure and emphasis. In addition to learning about people, this level teaches to form sentences around equational expressions “이에요/예요”, and learning the different between descriptive and question sentences. Students will also express existence of something using “있다/없다” and location of people or things using “에 있다/에 없다”.

For learners who have completed Beginner 1 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to master all basic skills focusing on the acquisition of beginner communication skills with vocabulary and basic grammar learning and the use of all the basic skills of Korean in more complex contexts. Students in Korean Beginner 2 will be able to talk about weekend activities using tense (past/present/future), make appointments using specific time and location, give reasons for actions, and ask for favors. Students will also talk about family members using honorific expressions. Object marker (을/를), present tense, past tense (았/었/였 어요), future tense ((으)ᄅ 거예요), honorific expressions (으시-/-시-, 께서), purpose of movement (-으러/러 가다), will be taught in this course.

For learners who have completed Beginner 2 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to help students master essential foundational skills, with a strong emphasis on acquiring mid-beginner communication skills, expanding their vocabulary, improving grammar, and applying these skills in more complex contexts. This course covers weather, outfit, color, health, recent condition, and transportaion. Students will learn about guessing probability (-(으)ㄹ 거예요), reason / in sequence (-아/어서), formal style sentence ending (-ㅂ/습니다), listing / order of time (-고), and means (-(으)로) in this course.

For learners who have completed Beginner 3 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to acquire basic skills with emphasis on beginner communication skills, vocabulary, and basic grammar. This course covers food, weather and climate, phone use, travel, moods, and emotions. Students will learn about intention (-(으)ㄹ래요), progression (-고 있다), reason (-니까), assumption (-면), change of condition (-아/어지다), request (-아/어 주세요), attempt (-아/어 보다), and promise for the future (-(으)ㄹ게요) in this course.

For learners who have completed Beginner 4 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to acquire pre-intermediate communicative skills, focusing on vocabulary and pre-intermediate grammar learning. This course will cover daily conversational skills, such as talking about public etiquette, making an appointment, and requesting a favor from someone. Students will learn about noun modifier (-(으)ㄴ/는), negation of imperative (-지 마세요), stating an obligation using ‘-아/어/여야 되다, delayed reflection after an experience (-(으)ㄴ지), and assumption (-(으)ㄴ/는 것 같다) in this course.

For learners who have completed Beginner 5 or have the equivalent proficiency. This course bridges the gap between beginner and intermediate Korean conversation, allowing learners to describe daily life activities related to work and study, as well as make plans with friends and family. The goal of this course is to acquire intermediate communicative skills, focusing on vocabulary and intermediate grammar learning. This course will cover daily conversational skills, such as giving regards and greetings, leisure activities, appointments, house chores. Students will learn some sentence patterns, such as simultaneous action (-(으)면서), casual style sentence ending (-아/어), low style verb ending (-아/어라(imperative) and (-자(propositive)), one’s ability (-(으)ㄹ 줄 알다 / 모르다), and tentative plan (-(으)ㄹ 까 하다).

For learners who have completed Intermediate1 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to acquire intermediate communicative skills, focusing on vocabulary and intermediate grammar. This course will cover upgraded daily conversational skills, such as travel, shopping, events, future plan, and cooking. Students will learn some sentence patterns, such as experience (-(으)ㄴ 적이 있다/없다), wish (-았/었으면 좋겠다), providing reason (-거든요), weak agreement (-기는 하다), allowance (-아/어도 되다), and intention (-(으)려고요).

For learners who have completed Intermediate 2 or have the equivalent proficiency. This course aims to enable students to communicate effectively in the Korean language in a variety of contexts and situations. They will be able to participate in both informal and formal conversations. In addition, they will improve their interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication. This course will cover upgraded daily conversational skills, such as culture difference, symptoms and treatment, dealing with personal worries and issues, and finance. Students will learn some sentence patterns, such as almost did (-(으)ㄹ 뻔하다), indirect quoted speech, inclination (-(으)ㄴ/는 편이다), reason for guessing (-(으)ㄹ 테니까), and making suggestions (-지 그래요).

For learners who have completed Intermediate 3 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to acquire intermediate communicative skills, focusing on vocabulary and intermediate grammar. This course focuses on expressing your personalities and characters, life etiquette, expressions of emotion/feeling, and stories of mistakes. It also covers intermediate grammar, such as reason (-기 때문에), purpose (-도록), realization during an action (-다가 보면), emphasizing a fact, thought, or feeling (얼마나 -(으)ㄴ/는지 모르다), and considering the opposite situation (았/었더라면).

The goal of this course is to develop intermediate communicative skills, acquire further comprehension ability, expand vocabulary, and learn complicated grammatical patterns and sentence structures. For learners who have completed Intermediate 5 or have the equivalent proficiency. The goal of this course is to develop intermediate communicative skills, acquire further comprehension ability, expanded vocabulary, and more complicated grammatical patterns and sentence structures. Learners will delve deeper into respectful speech, which is critical for formal and polite communication. This course will talk about jobs, machines, ways to make the world a better place, and helping others. Students will learn sentence patterns to express topics such as indicating the action of the preceding sentence (-는 데), as soon as (-자마자), to make do something (-게 하다/만들다), the more you do (-(으)ㄹ수록), and reason for negative outcome (-느라고).
